As a certified and dedicated Child-Centered Play Therapist and Counsellor, I am passionate about supporting children, adolescents, and young adults aged 2 to 25, along with their families, including those in or transitioning out of foster and kinship care. My extensive experience spans roles as a Youth Worker, Case Manager, and Specialist Children’s Counsellor, providing me with a well-rounded foundation in working with diverse populations and complex familial situations. This background allows me to approach each client with empathy, professionalism, and a nuanced understanding of their unique circumstances.
Throughout my career, I have specialised in addressing the impacts of domestic violence, trauma, child safety engagement, and complex family dynamics. These experiences have equipped me to respond effectively to the specific needs of clients facing these difficult challenges. I am skilled in creating a safe therapeutic environment where clients feel supported and understood as they navigate their emotional journeys, fostering resilience and recovery.
I have worked with clients experiencing a broad spectrum of mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, disordered eating, ADHD, ASD, ODD, and attachment issues. Many of these difficulties are rooted in life circumstances beyond their control. I am committed to providing a warm, empathetic, and non-judgemental space where clients can explore their thoughts and feelings openly. To facilitate healing and positive change, I utilise a variety of evidence-based approaches, including child-centred play therapy, and I am certified in Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT). These techniques are designed to promote self-awareness, resilience, and growth within a supportive and nurturing setting.
Supporting families is a core part of my practice. I work with parents and caregivers to deepen their understanding of their child's needs, improve communication, and develop effective strategies to foster resilience and emotional wellbeing. I believe empowering families through guidance and education is essential to creating a stable, nurturing environment that promotes positive mental health. I tailor my therapeutic techniques to suit each child's developmental stage and specific circumstances, whether they are facing school challenges, family transitions, or the emotional impacts of foster or kinship care.
My dedication to ongoing professional development ensures I stay at the forefront of my field. I have completed specialised training in child-centred play therapy, evidence-based counselling approaches, and actively engage with professional associations such as the Play Therapy Practitioners Association (PTPA) and the Australian Counselling Association (ACA). These commitments reflect my belief in continuous growth and learning, enabling me to deliver the highest standard of care. I am genuinely excited to support your child and family on their journey, creating a safe, supportive space where healing, resilience, and positive change can flourish.
Ultimately, my goal is to empower young people and their families to overcome obstacles, build confidence, and develop the skills necessary for a healthier, more hopeful future.
